Walk into most Indian wedding venues and you will find a bank of LED panels pointed at the mandap. They make everything visible. They also make everything look identical.
Light is information
The warm spill of a haldi courtyard at 9 AM tells you the time of day, the season, the mood in the room. Flatten it with a flash and you have thrown that information away.
Modern sensors changed the maths
Ten years ago, shooting a sangeet at ISO 6400 was a compromise. Today it is a choice, and it is the right one almost every time.
When we do use flash
Receptions after dark, and group portraits where sharpness beats mood. We are not purists. We are just careful.
